As a longtime vegetarian (13 years and counting!), I know firsthand that it can be tough to travel with dietary restrictions. There’s always a bit of trepidation when going to a new place: what if the only thing I can eat is salad? Are there types of restaurants that I should avoid? What dishes secretly have meat in them?

I first visited Paris in 2015 and was impressed by the number of vegetarian-friendly dishes I found throughout the city. With the help of a local friend, I tried everything from cheeses to crepes to kebabs to bakeries – all without meat.

Now that I’ve moved to the city, I want to share all of my top finds with other vegetarians visiting Paris. Whether you’re just trying to eat less meat, you’re a longtime vegetarian, or somewhere in between, I’ll do my best to share places around Paris that are serving up the best of the best veggie and vegan eats.

Meet the Author

Hi! I’m Amber and I’m the vegetarian and Paris resident behind Vegetarian in Paris. Originally from Colorado, I stopped eating meat around 2007 and never looked back. I do, however, love food and absolutely hate to compromise on flavor or texture. My love of food drove me to learn to cook (so that I could make exactly what I wanted to eat!) and I cooked every recipe in Kathryne Taylor’s cookbook, Love Real Food, in 2017/2018.

I first moved abroad in 2020 to rural Ireland, then Cork, Ireland for a couple of years. In 2024, I moved to Paris.

For me, traveling and living abroad is all about the food. I carry dried hatch green chilis in my backpack to put a little Colorado spice into bland hotel breakfasts, I’ll plan my entire trip around a restaurant I want to try, and the destinations that pull me back over and over again almost always have great food.

If I see a line around the block for a restaurant (or, even better, a food stall), I’ll probably get in it without asking any other questions. I don’t give restaurants a pass just for attempting to make something vegetarian; it’d better be good. And meatless. The good news is that lots of places pass my test, especially in Paris! Hence Vegetarian in Paris, my forum for sharing the best of the best with you.

A quick note: I love to share my adventures and advice about living abroad on my travel blog, Amber Everywhere. While I’ll definitely share some travel tips for Paris in the travel section of Vegetarian in Paris, you’ll find more travel content on Amber Everywhere.
